MEDIA RELEASE

Ilderton, June 10, 2023 – On Saturday, June 10, 2023, Mayor DeViet and Councillor Debbie Heffernan of Middlesex Centre formally opened updated washrooms and a new accessible washroom at Ilderton’s Heritage Park. Completed with $150,000 in funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilient Communities Fund, the new washrooms allow all visitors to participate fully in park events.

“Heritage Park is a community hub for Ilderton residents, and these new and accessible washrooms will keep it that way for decades to come,” said Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “Our government will continue to invest in public spaces to ensure our rural towns and communities have the resources they need to thrive.”

Located in downtown Ilderton, Heritage Park is a busy community park, hosting the Ilderton Farmers Market, minor sports, and both private and public special events. With a playground, splash pad, and skate park, and adjacent to the Ilderton Medical Centre and Ilderton Library, the park is used by families and others in the community every day.

“Thanks to the grant we received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we have taken another step in our commitment to accessibility and inclusion,” said Mayor DeViet. “Our Accessibility Policy, Community Services Master Plan, and Age-Friendly Community Action Plan all point to accessible municipal facilities as foundational to making sure people of all ages and abilities can fully take part in community life.”

Middlesex Centre is committed to ensuring that the park serves the needs all residents, and that it remains accessible for community activities over the course of the year.
