Mayor DeViet opened the meeting by congratulating the Ilderton Fair on its 175th successful year and thanked the members of the Ilderton Agriculture Society and volunteers who work hard to make the fair run so smoothly each year. Mayor DeViet also recognized the efforts of our local farmers during this busy harvest season.

Council Business

During the meeting, Council:

  • Received the monthly budget to actual report for August 2026.
  • Received the results of the 2027 Budget Survey. The municipality received 384 responses, with 82% of respondents rating the overall value they receive for their Middlesex Centre tax dollars as fair, good or excellent. In addition, 84% said they were satisfied, very satisfied or neutral with municipal service delivery. Results were similar to past years. Full survey results will be posted to the municipal website.
  • Received information on new procurement requirements under Ontario’s Buy Ontario Act, which require municipalities to prioritize Ontario- and Canadian-made goods and services for certain purchases, including fleet vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Amended the budget to move the start of the Clear Skies Playground Project forward. The $300,000 project had been included in the 2027 Budget but was moved ahead to align with the timing of park development. Work on the playground base is tentatively planned to begin this fall, with playground installation expected in late spring 2027. Funding will come from the Development Charges Reserve Fund.
  • Received the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan final report. In the final year of the plan, Council and staff continued to move key initiatives forward, including:
    • adopting the Active Transportation Plan;
    • supporting Ilderton’s 150th Anniversary celebrations;
    • developing Middlesex Centre’s Economic Development Strategy;
    • updating the Comprehensive Zoning By-law; and
    • continuing to invest in municipal infrastructure and other assets.
  • Approved an Automatic Aid Agreement with the Township of Southwold for fire and emergency response services along a designated section of Highway 401.
  • Directed staff to proceed with a pilot Green Bin Program for urban areas of Middlesex Centre (Delaware, Komoka, Kilworth and Ilderton), starting April 1, 2027, pending budget approval.
