Mayor DeViet opened the meeting by reminding those attending about Rail Safety Week, Sept. 21 to 27, which encourages Canadians to remain alert near railway tracks. The Mayor also mentioned the upcoming Ilderton Fall Fair, Oct. 2 to 4.
Active Transportation Plan (ATP)
During the meeting, Council adopted the Active Transportation Plan, with amendments to exclude the proposed Ilderton Rail Trail expansion and sidewalks on Mill and Margaret Streets.
The Active Transportation Plan (ATP) is a comprehensive 20-year strategy that will guide the development and implementation of sidewalks, trails, cycling routes, and pedestrian crossings throughout Middlesex Centre. The plan recommends and prioritizes more than 50 km of new sidewalks, 30 km multi-use trails, 50 km of new cycling infrastructure, and 8 new or improved pedestrian crossings, Approving the Active Transportation Plan did not commit Council to constructing projects immediately, rather projects from the plan will come forward through the annual budget process for Council’s consideration and approval.
Planning Matters
During the meeting Council also dealt with a number of planning matters, including approving a revised Zoning By-law amendment to permit eight medium-density residential units at 108 Caverhill Crescent.
