MEDIA RELEASE
Middlesex Centre, August 12, 2026 – The Municipality of Middlesex Centre is pleased to announce that the Optimist Club of Komoka-Kilworth has committed $6,800 to support the Komoka Youth Centre through to the end of 2026.
The Youth Centre opened in September 2024 through a partnership between the Municipality of Middlesex Centre and the Middlesex Centre YMCA. Located at the Komoka Community Centre, it provides a welcoming space for youth ages 9 to 17 to connect with peers and participate in activities and programs. The centre operates three evenings a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
With initial seed funding from the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative now concluded, the Optimist Club's contribution will help ensure Youth Centre programming continues uninterrupted through 2026.
“We are deeply grateful for the Optimist Club of Komoka-Kilworth’s commitment to young people in our community,” said Mayor Aina DeViet. “The Komoka Youth Centre has become an important gathering place where youth can build friendships, develop new skills and feel connected. This generous support will help ensure those opportunities continue through the end of 2026.”
Since opening, the Youth Centre has offered drop-in programming and activities that encourage social connection, personal growth and community involvement. The continued partnership between the Municipality, YMCA and Optimist Club will help sustain these opportunities while longer-term funding solutions are explored.
