Support for Local Businesses and Affordable Housing

Middlesex Centre's Community Improvement Plan (CIP) encourages rehabilitation, revitalization and redevelopment of properties across the municipality. Through the CIP, funding is available to eligible businesses and residents in the form of grants and reimbursements.

Funding for Businesses

The CIP features several funding programs for industrial and commercial businesses including:

  • Façade and Signage Improvement Grant
  • Development Charges Grant
  • Building Fee Reimbursement Program
  • Accessibility Retrofits or Modifications
  • Energy Efficiency and Retrofit Grant
  • Site Readiness
  • and more

Eligibility requirements and maximum funding amounts vary by program.

New! Grants to support Affordable Housing and Additional Residential Units (ARUs)

Middlesex Centre recently updated its Zoning By-law to encourage Additional Residential Units (ARUs), sometimes called secondary suites or in-law suites. ARUs help create more affordable housing options, support multi-generational living, and allow residents to remain in the community as their housing needs change. The zoning rules will differ based on whether you are located in an area with full municipal services (municipal water and sanitary sewers) or if you have a well and/or septic system, and there are rules for how large these units can be.

Visit the ARU webpage for more information, including a handy ARU Guide.

Recent CIP updates include a grant of up to $15,000 toward the construction of an ARU, funded through the Housing Accelerator Fund. This grant complements other programs that support affordable housing in the community.
