What is an Unassumed Subdivision?
An unassumed subdivision is a neighbourhood where homes are being built or occupied, but the municipality has not yet taken ownership of the roads, stormwater facilities, parks, and other infrastructure. Until the subdivision is assumed, the developer is responsible for maintaining this infrastructure and completing any remaining work to meet municipal standards.
A subdivision is only assumed after all required infrastructure is finished, inspected, and has gone through a warranty period to ensure it is functioning properly. Once assumed, the municipality takes over long‑term maintenance and operations, such as road repairs, streetlights, and snow removal.
