Presentations

  • Mike DeVos of Spriet Associates outlined two drainage engineer reports, pertaining to McQueen-Kennings and Moir drains. The court of revision will meet on August 6, 2025.
  • Davin Heinbuck, General Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA), provided an update regarding programs and services provided by ABCA. These include programs and services ABCA has provided for many years, such as watershed and environmental monitoring, watershed stewardship restoration, and conservation education and outreach.

During the Meeting, Council:

  • Received the 2024 Treasurer’s Investment report.
  • Adopted Middlesex Centre’s new Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy.
  • Congratulated Middlesex Centre’s finance team for receiving a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA - USA/Canada) for the 2025 Municipal Budget. This award recognizes municipalities that demonstrate the highest principles of governmental budgeting. It is the fourth year in a row that Middlesex Centre has received this award.
  • Received the Mayor’s Budget Process for 2026, including amended timelines for revision and review of the proposed budget, and appointed Councillor Coles and Aerts to sit with the mayor and staff on the Mayor’s Budget Working Group.
  • Submitted a request to the County of Middlesex to delegate Plan of Subdivision and Plan of Condominium approvals to Middlesex Centre. Council also directed staff to work with the County to initiate a review of the Planning Services Agreement.
  • Received a report outlining initiatives to expedite housing supported through the Housing Accelerator Fund program provided by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Council also directed staff to proceed with hiring a full-time Development Engineer.

The next meeting of Middlesex Centre Council is set for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., held at the municipal office.
