Deputy Mayor John Brennan opened the meeting with reminder about the Canada Day celebrations happening in Middlesex Centre.
Presentations
- MHBC has been retained by the County of Middlesex to complete a Comprehensive Zoning By-law Amendment Review for Middlesex Centre and other lower-tier municipalities as part of the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) grant. The goal of the project is to “…streamline the development of diverse and sustainable housing options …” In this presentation, MHBC outlined the findings of the first phase of this project, a jurisdictional review, to Council for their information.
- Middlesex Centre’s auditor presented the 2024 Audited Financial Statements. The statements were adopted by Council and will be available on the municipal website in the next few weeks.
Council Business
During the meeting, Council:
- Authorized the 2025-2028 Fire Prevention Agreement Renewal between Middlesex Centre and North Middlesex. Since 2019, Middlesex Centre has provided fire prevention and investigation services to North Middlesex through this inter-municipal service agreement.
- Received the budget to actual report for May 2025.
- Amended the 2025 budget to allow for the repair of a failing culvert on Poplar Hill Rd. near Fernhill Dr. The design and construction cost of $497,806 (including non-refundable portion of HST) will be drawn from the Roads Department’s capital reserve fund.
- Directed staff to begin public engagement regarding potential fees associated with the Melrose Drinking Water Interconnect Project.
- Directed staff to provide input on identified areas of interest, such as transportation, agriculture, and development, among others, to the County of Middlesex as part of the ongoing County Official Plan Review.

The next meeting of Middlesex Centre Council is set for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., held at the municipal office.
