
Mayor DeViet opened the meeting by recognizing May 18 to 24, 2025, as VON Week. Mayor DeViet spoke of the vital contributions of VON Middlesex-Elgin to the health and care of residents in the community.
Later in the meeting, Deputy Mayor Brennan and council members commended staff on the completion of the renovations to the office and the Coldstream Community Centre, mentioning the positive feedback received from members of the public at the open house held on May 20.
During the meeting, Council:
- Sitting as the Court of Revision, approved the schedule of assessment for the Bear Creek Drain Culvert.
- Received petitions for drainage work on the Wood Municipal Drain, Courtney Drain Branch, and the Dekay Drain.
- Received a report from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) regarding electricity planning for the next 20 years in the Middlesex-London area.
- Received an update on pending legislation that will establish a new, standardized municipal code of conduct and integrity commissioner framework within the Province of Ontario.
- Received the 2024 annual report on development charges.
- Authorized the sale of the municipal property at 13211 Ilderton Road (formerly CIBC) to Elite Performance and Injury Clinic (EPIC).
- Received the budget to actual report for April 2025, and the capital budget report for the first quarter of the year.
- Received the first quarter 2025 building permit activity summary. Fifty-two building permits were issued to the end of March 2025. The number of new residential units and construction value increased to 12 units and $16 million, up from 8 units and $13 million respectively in the first quarter of 2024.
- Approved the replacement of Middlesex Centre Fire Service’s cut saws in the amount of $8,500. This is in response to a safety issue with the saws.
- Awarded the tender for the Elmhurst Street and Parkland Place reconstruction project to Birnam Excavating Ltd. in the amount of $2,205,454.
- Directed staff to proceed with the replacement of an existing plow truck engine at an estimated cost of $60,005. This is in response to an unexpected equipment breakdown.
