Mayor DeViet opened the meeting with a reminder about the upcoming celebrations for Ilderton’s 150th anniversary. The organizing committee has a full weekend of family-friendly events planned for July 10 to 12, and all are welcome to attend. Mayor DeViet thanked all the volunteers who have worked so hard to prepare for Ilderton’s 150th anniversary celebrations, noting that their commitment and community spirit will help make the weekend truly special.

Council Business

During the meeting, Council:

  • Awarded the construction of the Dale Drain to the lowest tender bid submission received from A.G. Hayter Contracting Ltd. in the amount of $81,510 + HST.
  • Received a petition for drainage works for the Government Drain No. 2 submitted by the landowner. Council directed staff to notify the affected landowners and appropriate agencies of the decision to proceed with the work.
  • Congratulated Middlesex Centre’s finance team for receiving a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 2026 Municipal Budget. This award recognizes municipalities that demonstrate the highest principles of governmental budgeting. It is the fifth year in a row that Middlesex Centre has received this award.
  • Approved an updated Animal Control By-law and associated set fines. Revisions to the by-law include a transition from a dog and cat focused regulation to a full animal control by-law, changes to the dangerous dog designation, and additional duties of care for animals. The updates bring the by-law into alignment with current best practices and offer staff more tools to deal with animal-control related issues.
  • Owing to regulatory changes to provincial legislation, as of January 1, 2026, waste and recycling collection service providers were no longer permitted to collect residential and industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) recycling in the same truck.  As a result, municipalities were required to decide on how to manage ICI recycling programs. Middlesex Centre’s waste services provider, Bluewater Recycling Association (BRA) opted to continue ICI recycling collection for 2026, giving time for BRA and municipality’s to determine the implications of the new system.
After a review, Middlesex Centre staff provided council with four options to support ICI recycling collection starting in 2027. Council directed staff to continue to offer recycling service (through BRA) with full-cost recovery fees for the service charged to ICI properties starting in 2027. The fees amount to $160 per bin per year, or $13.33 per month.
  • NOTE: Council held a special meeting on June 26, 2026, regarding a legal matter. No highlights were issued for that meeting as only the closed session matter was discussed.
