Presentations
Dave Barnabi, Interim Detachment Commander with Middlesex OPP, provided Council with an overview of the OPP’s annual activity report for Middlesex Centre in 2025. Statistics discussed included motor vehicle collisions, traffic enforcement, crime trends, and community safety & engagement. Overall, there was a significant reduction in vehicle collisions, down to 395 in 2025 from 446 in 2024. Traffic enforcement charges saw an increase in 2025, up significantly from 2024. This included seat belt, speeding and impaired driving infractions. The full report can be found as part of the council agenda.
Additionally, Joe Winser, Director of Human Services with Middlesex County, delivered a presentation regarding homeless support in Middlesex County that assist unhoused individuals and those at risk of homelessness (due to food insecurity, rental costs, and general cost increases). Middlesex County provides support through many programs, including the Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP), Middlesex Accommodations Program (MAP), food insecurity supports, and the Whatever It Takes Fund, which aims at assisting with rental and utilities arrears.
Council Business
During the meeting, Council:
- Received the Legislative Services (Office of the Clerk) activity report for 2025. In 2025, the municipality issued 32 marriage licences, performed 10 civil ceremonies, issued 34 lottery licences, and commissioned over 100 documents.
- Received an overview of the municipality’s engagement on social media and its website in 2025. The municipality continued to grow its engagement on various social media channels and saw continued strong use of the municipal website as a central hub for information, with over 135,000 visitors annually.
- Received the budget to actual report for December 2025.
- Directed staff to prepare and finalize a lease agreement with HGLW Holdings Inc. for the use of the new addition to the Komoka Wellness Centre.
Next Council Meeting
A special meeting of Middlesex Centre Council is set for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., at the municipal office, to hold a public meeting related to the Official Plan Review. The regular meeting of Council will proceed at 5:30 p.m.
